Carbon Nanotechnology

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are carbon allotropes with a cylindrical nanostructure. These cylindrical carbon molecules have unique properties that are useful in nanotechnology, electronics, optics, and other materials science and technology fields. Because of the material's exceptional strength and stiffness, nanotubes have been built with length-to-diameter ratios of up to 132,000,000:1, far exceeding any other material. Carbon nanotubes are also used as structural materials additives due to their exceptional thermal conductivity, mechanical, and electrical properties. Nanotubes, for example, are a minor component of some (primarily carbon fiber) baseball bats, golf clubs, car parts, and Damascus steel.
